An empty stage is a wonderful canvas. Sitting in a dark theatre you can see and feel the potential that lies in front of you. A design for theatre is always in the process of becoming; from the instant you read the first line of the script to the moment the last lines are spoken on stage.
I am a designer with a foot in two worlds. I enjoy creating by hand: feeling the paper, the watercolors, and the scale rule while equally embracing the precision and speed of drafting on a computer. Theatre is digital yet analog; theoretical and practical; cerebral yet sensory. It is purposefully based on text, yet full of play.
As a designer, I don’t want my work to stand apart from the work of my collaborators. I instead want my art to support the work of my fellow artists so that together we can create one unified production. I’m at my best with a team that is challenging each other to take the next creative step.
